Information Management Services

Our expertise covers the full construction process, with specialist knowledge in providing strategic BIM planning & execution within client and supplier organisations to maximise return on investment.

To enable the plan, design, construct, and operate phases to work effectively in BIM, there are a number of tools, processes and guides that need to be in place. The PAS/BS 1192 suite of documents states some of these minimum requirements, but help may be needed to put them in place. Potential value we can offer

  • - Project BIM documentation to PAS 1192-2 such as BIM execution plans & protocols
  • - User Guides and 3D content creation guides
  • - Drafting of 3D families of products & equipment for your libraries
  • - Content creation service for platforms such as Autodesk Revit
  • - Conversion of 3D point cloud surveys into building information models

To minimise the extent and duration of your learning curve, we have developed experience in benchmarking and auditing the following:

BIM maturity assessments, improvement road maps, and competitor benchmarking

  • - Consultant scope of service addendums
  • - Content of BIM projects, 3D families, and templates
  • - IT/hosting/collaboration/searching

Linking together multiple sources of desktop information will limit project memory loss, and facilitate design optimisation. The objective is to get to the optimised design as soon as possible to limit the number of design iterations that require evaluation, and reduce future project drop-out. Information linked into a 3D model will enable more accurate cost estimation, easier exploration of different options, visualisation of construction sequence, and maximised return on investment. Potential value we can offer:

  • - Cost estimation and quantity take-off
  • - Reduced time to estimate cost
  • - Desktop information linked into a coordinated 3D model
  • - Scheduling of major material quantities and abnormals
  • - Templates for Architectural models incl. areas & material schedules
  • - Engineering templates for framing, concrete, cut, fill, and retaining wall quantification
  • - High level phase planning to visualise construction sequences

Turning concept and planning approved designs into detailed design information that can be used for construction. 3D authoring software is used to create the building information models that can then allow drawing creation, quantity take-off, engineering analysis and design code audits. Design reviews enable key stakeholders to review designs using virtual mock-ups and flythroughs. Potential value we can offer:

  • - Cost estimation and quantity take-off
  • - Reduced time to estimate cost
  • - Stakeholder reviews to demonstrate design intent
  • - Facilitate engagement using 3D flythrough and CAVE technology
  • - Collaboration & design coordination meetings
  • - Clash detection service using Navisworks
  • - Creation of tender BIM documentation
  • - Consultant evaluation & competency checks, and pre-tender BIM questionnaires
  • - Data interoperability/compatibility checks

This phase implements theoretical design and hands over an accurate record model of the built asset. 3D coordination is used to identify and resolve clashes between designers, and phase planning (4D modelling) is used to show time based construction sequences. Digital information is shared with sub contractors and fabricators to improve quality and lead times. The use of field software during construction and commissioning facilitates compliance to contract documents, safety regulations, and client quality requirements. Potential value we can offer:

  • - Coordinate building models
  • - Reduce RFI’s and field conflicts
  • - Visualise construction sequence & phasing plans
  • - Identifying and embedding data for future operational uses
  • - Modelling for fabrication
  • - Clash detection
  • - Minimise tolerances for machine fabrication
  • - Reduce dependency on paper drawings
  • - Document as installed information at handover
  • - Reduce time to upload construction information to FM systems
  • - Accurate quantity take-off throughout asset lifecycle
  • - Provide detailed cost estimates for option comparison

In the operational phase, the use of record 3D models and linked data to improve efficiency is a key outcome. We have a tried and tested method of analysing facilities management requirements and linking these needs directly to BIM tools to provide a clear return on investment. During reactive and planned preventative maintenance, use of the record 3D model provides quick on site access to asset locations, links to documentation, and visibility of essential maintenance components. Potential value we can offer:

  • - Space utilisation & tracking
  • - Asset Management: linking the record model to the asset management system
  • - Portfolio management
  • - Plan (preventative) maintenance activities
  • - Link to asset information during reactive maintenance calls
  • - Evaluate whole life costing
  • - Ensure built asset is operating to original design
  • - Create ‘what if’ scenarios if you change materials, layouts, or systems
